Summary
Studies of human resource management (HRM) research trends have mostly described the global literature, and have paid little attention to what the research community inside South Korea has been working on. This study fills that gap by examining the semantic network structure of Korean HRM research.
We analysed 1,158 research papers published from 2007 to 2018 in three leading peer-reviewed HRM journals in Korea. Author keywords were treated as nodes in a network, and bibliometric keyword network analysis was used to describe the structure of the whole network, the position of individual keywords, and the groups they form.
The whole network shows a complex semantic structure that reflects socially shared research interests. Within it, we identified the ten most prominent keywords and described the ego-centric network around each of them, and we found nine thematic clusters that summarize the main streams of Korean HRM research over the period.
Why it matters
The study offers a structural, data-based description of a national HRM research community that can be set beside the global trend studies.
