Overview
As the career paradigm has shifted from the organization to the individual, interest in subjective career success has grown, but researchers differ on what to measure it with and how. This presentation, with 이재은 (Konkuk University), aimed to examine how subjective career success has been measured in Korean research and to generalize and test the reported reliability.
We searched journals indexed in the Korea Citation Index with the keyword “주관적 경력성공” and collected 83 articles; after two rounds of screening, 55 were analyzed. We coded them by study characteristics, sample characteristics, instrument characteristics, and reliability characteristics, then ran descriptive statistics, analysis of variance, and a regression analysis of factors affecting reliability, together with a keyword network analysis in R.
Key points
- The journals that carried the most articles were 한국심리학회지: 산업 및 조직, HRD연구, and 직업교육연구, in that order; by field, education and business administration were the most common.
- Studies that measured two sub-factors (e.g., career satisfaction, employability) were the most common, followed by a single factor.
- The most widely used instrument was the scale of Greenhaus et al. (1990), followed by the scale of Johnson (2001).
- Reported reliability was most often between .80 and .90.
- Characteristics of the instrument explained more of the differences in reliability than characteristics of the sample.
