What students learn

Students build advanced knowledge of the analytical tools, techniques, and methodologies used in business analytics. They apply statistical methods and machine learning to complex business data, bring in knowledge from marketing, finance, and operations, identify business problems and evaluate analytical solutions, and learn to explain findings to different audiences in writing and in speech.

  • Foundations of business analytics, including data warehousing, relational databases, and structured and unstructured data
  • Quantitative analysis and decision making: advanced statistical techniques, time series and forecasting, predictive modeling, supervised and unsupervised learning
  • Ethics in data analytics: privacy, security, and ethical data collection and interpretation
  • Cross-domain analytics: marketing, financial, and supply chain analytics
  • Strategic business analytics and case studies
  • Capstone project on a real business problem

Tools

The outline does not prescribe software. One of the two suggested texts works through business problems in R and Python.
